FOREST GROVE — Four Boxers scored in double figures, including 19 from
Nate Olowo, as Pacific fell 90-79 to the visiting Blues of Whitman College.
Whitman, the No. 2 team in the country according to D3Hoops.com, took an early 6-0 lead on the backs of two-straight 3-pointers before
J.B. Ewell (Portland, Ore.) put Pacific on the board with a jumper of his own. A 3-pointer by
Michael Joseph (Anchorage, Alaska) with 17:09 left in the first half pulled the Boxers within three of the blues, but Whitman would score seven-straight points to extend the lead to 11 with 13:41 on the clock.
K.C. Harrison (Las Vegas, Nev.) sparked the Boxers onto a 10-point swing entering the final 10-minutes of the half, trailing by only two.
Christopher Evans (Seaside, Calif.) capped off the Boxer run with five-straight points of his own.
Whitman, who hit 11 3-pointers on the evening, capped the final 10:38 of the first half with six 3-pointers, against the Boxers' four 3-pointers in the same stretch and took a 46-31 lead into halftime.
Pacific trailed by 20 with 17:41 on the clock, but the Boxers fought back and cut the lead to 13 with 10:37 on the clock thanks to six points over a seven-minute stretch by Ewell and 10 points combined from Olowo (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), Joseph and
Lane Josi (Hillsboro, Ore.).
Whitman outpaced the Boxers in scoring as the half continued, pushing the lead to 17 with 5:12 remaining. Despite Whitman extending its lead to 17, the Boxers outscored the Blues 9-6 over the final five minutes of play. The later Boxer run fell short, as the Blues left with a 90-79 victory.
Olowo notched a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Joseph scored 16 points with help from three 3-point makes. Harrison and Ewell finished with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Davis Holly (Bend, Ore.) led the Boxers on the night with five assists.
Pacific next hosts No. 8 Whitworth on Saturday, with scheduled tip of 6 p.m. inside the Stoller Center.
