MCMINNVILLE, Ore. — Cindy Chan and Kaitlyn Macaitis-Smith both posted two-hit games on Friday evening as the Boxers fell to No. 8 Linfield at Del Smith Stadium.
Â
Pacific fell 8-0 in five innings during Friday's opening game, while the Wildcats picked up a 7-1 win in game two of the twin bill.
Â
After a day off on Saturday, due to expected inclement weather, the Boxers and Wildcats will reconvene on Sunday in McMinnville with first pitch scheduled for noon.
Â
GAME ONE: No. 8 Linfield 8, Pacific 0 (5 inn.)
Â
Chan (Torrance, Calif.) led Pacific at the plate in game one with a 2-3 outing at the plate.
Â
After Chan led the game off with a single, it was Linfield who struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Â
The Wildcats followed up with a run in the second, two in the third and three in the bottom of the fourth, before shutting down the Boxers' offense in the top of the fifth to secure a five-inning victory over the visiting Boxers.
Â
Becca Bernard (Roseville, Calif.) and
Katelyn Macaitis-Smith (Salem, Ore.) both picked up a hit in the game one against the Wildcats.
Â
GAME TWO: No. 8 Linfield 7, Pacific 1
Â
Macaitis-Smith picked up a pair of hits in game two, while also driving in Pacific's lone run of the night in game two of the Friday doubleheader.
Â
After Linfield plated four runs in the bottom of the first, Pacific got on the scoreboard in the top of the third with two outs.
Â
Bernard singled to center and scampered to second on an error by the Linfield centerfielder, before Macaitis-Smith singled to center allowing Bernard to score from second to plate Pacific's first run of the evening.
Â
The two sides battled through two scoreless innings, before the Wildcats tallied three runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-1 lead over the visitors.
Â
A defensive highlight for Pacific came in the bottom of the fourth when after Kenzie Schmoll tripled to lead off the frame; Emily Allen sent what looked to be a sacrifice fly into center field.
Â
Chan recorded the first out of the inning on the Allen fly ball before firing a throw to
Amanda Machado (Folsom, Calif.) at the plate. Machado followed up with a tag on Schmoll to complete the double play and keep the Wildcats from adding another run.
Â
Macaitis-Smith recorded two hits, while Machado and
Haley Kodama (Pearl City, Hawaii) both picked up one hit each in game two.
Â
In the circle,
Cassie Apple (Modesto, Calif.) tossed six innings in relief and struck out four Linfield batters.
