GEORGETOWN, Texas —
Paisley Hiefield recorded a four-goal performance, but a pair of goals in the final minute of play earned Southwestern a 12-11 win over the Boxers at the Varsity Fields on Thursday.
The Boxers and Pirates battled back-and-forth throughout the evening, after Hiefield (Portland, Ore.) opened the scoring with less than two minutes into the action. Southwestern answered less than two minutes after Hiefield's goal, before
Kenedie Hemrich (Murrieta, Calif.) scored off an assist from
April Lanz (Oregon City, Ore.) 19 seconds later.
Hiefield and
Jordyn Godfrey (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) made it three-straight goals for the Boxers as Pacific took a 4-1 lead with 13:23 remaining in the first half. Southwestern struck again, but
Meg Chapman (Woodinville, Wash.) notched back-to-back goals, which gave Pacific a four-goal advantage.
Southwestern scored a late first period goal, but Pacific took a 6-3 lead into the halftime break.
The Pirates struck first in the second half, only to see Hemrich and Chapman score back-to-back goals to extend Pacific's lead to 8-4.
Following another Pirates goal, Lanz made it 9-5 with a free position goal. The Boxers' advantage dwindled with two Southwestern goals, pulling the Pirates within two of the Boxers.
With 14:42 on the clock, Hiefield completed her hat trick only to see Southwestern score three-straight goals to tie the game at 10-10. Hiefield regained the lead for the Boxers with a free position goal with 9:10 remaining in regulation.
After nearly nine minutes of scoreless action, Southwestern's Kate Davis scored at the 51-second mark to tie the game at 11-11, only to see Kaitlyn Campbell tally the game winner with four seconds remaining.
Dakota Dantzer (Murrieta, Calif.) and
Adrienne Salzwedel (Beaverton, Ore.) both snagged four ground balls, while Lanz controlled eight draws.
Hiefield's four goals led Pacific, while Chapman and Lanz both notched two assists on the evening.
Pacific continues its six-game road swing on Sunday with a noon first draw at Puget Sound.
