Boxers cruise by Loggers for first NWC win of season

TACOMA, Wash. — Seven Boxers scored goals on Sunday as Pacific topped Puget Sound 16-5 at East Field to earn its first NWC win of the season.

After Puget Sound tallied in the opening two minutes of play, Roya Tahmassebi (Mountain View, Calif.) tied the game at 1-1 off an assist from Lucy Almao (Orange County, Calif.). Tahmassebi struck again less than four minutes later with an unassisted goal, which gave Pacific a lead they would not relinquish the remainder of the day.

Paisley Hiefield (Portland, Ore.) assisted on a Jordyn Godfrey (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) goal at the 20:48 mark in the first period, while a minute later Meg Chapman (Woodinville, Wash.) gave Pacific a 4-1 lead on her unassisted goal.

April Lanz (Oregon City, Ore.) scored with 18:56 left in the first period, followed by a Godfrey goal at 17:35 that proved to be the game winner.

Pacific finished the opening period with 12 goals, before adding an additional four in the second half of play.

Hiefield led Pacific with four goals, while Godfrey and Lanz both recorded hat tricks.

Chapman and Tahmassebi scored twice each in the Boxers' victory. The final two Pacific scorers were Almao and Brittney Bardin (Albany, Ore.), who both scored one goal on the day.

Chapman led Pacific with five ground balls, while finishing with seven draw controls behind Lanz's nine.

Adrienne Salzwedel (Beaverton, Ore.) picked up the win in goal for Pacific, while Kaitlin Ellis (Hillsboro, Ore.) notched six saves in a second half appearance.

The Boxers reach the back half of their six-game road trip on Wednesday at Linfield with first draw scheduled for 6 p.m.
