The Pacific University women's tennis team snapped a three-game losing streak with an 8-1 win over UC Santa Cruz on Thursday at the Holce Tennis Courts in Forest Grove.
The Boxers (3-5) began the day winning two of three doubles matches that were played indoors. As the sun emerged from the clouds, Pacific dominated the singles matches winning all six in straight sets as they were contested outside. Among the winners were senior
Kaitlyn Lomartire (Portland, Ore.) who was a 7-6, 6-3 winner at No. 1 singles to extend her singles winning streak to three and her team leading eighth win of the season. Lomartire teamed up with
Johanna Wilson (The Dalles, Ore.) for a win at No. 2 doubles by an 8-2 margin. The other doubles win came from the duo of
Mai Kobayashi (Waikoloa, Hawaii) and
Marissa Hayashi (Hilo, Hawaii) at No. 3 by a score of 8-4.
Also, winning their second-straight singles matches were
Chantelle Baclay (Lahaina, Hawaii) and
Danielle du Plooy (Cape Town, South Africa), who won at No. 3 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Baclay was a 7-5, 6-1 winner and du Plooy won by a 6-2, 6-3 margin.
Next, the Boxers will face George Fox on Saturday, Apr. 1 in Newberg at 11 a.m.
