Martin tosses shutout in win over Loggers

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — The Pacific softball team picked up its first conference victory on Sunday at Sherman/Larkins Stadium, before rain washed away the second game of a doubleheader with Puget Sound.

The Boxers earned a 6-0 victory in game one, but a half-hour rain delay followed by continued rain wiped out the Boxers 1-0 lead over the Loggers in game two until the game can be continued at a later date. The make-up date for game four of the weekend series has not been set.

Pacific will hit the road on Saturday with a noon first pitch scheduled in McMinnville against No. 7 Linfield.

GAME ONE: Pacific 6, Puget Sound 0
Cindy Chan (Torrance, Calif.) tallied two hits, while Ashley Martin (Sutherlin, Ore.) struck out four Loggers in a shutout victory.

Pacific struck first in the bottom of the second as Katelyn Macaitis-Smith (Salem, Ore.) walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Becca Bernard (). A wild pitch moved Macaitis-Smith to third, where she would score on a single by Chan.

The Boxers posted a crooked number in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs after Macaitis-Smith opened the frame with a single. Bernard followed with a single, before her and Macaitis-Smith advanced a base on a wild pitch. The bases loaded when Hayley Kodama (Pearl City, Hawaii) walked with no outs.

Amanda Machado (Folsom, Calif.) doubled to plate Macaitis-Smith and Bernard. Kodama and MAchado scored on a double by Chan, while Chan would later score on a ground out by Trisha Snydar ().

Neither team was able to push across another run in the final 3.5 innings, earning the Boxers a 6-0 home victory.
