Boxers, Bruins split on Saturday in Newberg

NEWBERG, Ore. — Trisha Snydar and Katelyn Macaitis-Smith both notched multi-hit games on Saturday afternoon as Pacific spit a NWC double header at Morse Athletic Field against George Fox.

The Boxers took game one 2-1, while the Bruins escaped with a 4-3 victory in game two.

Pacific returns to Newberg on Sunday for another doubleheader with the Bruins, scheduled for a noon first pitch.

GAME ONE: Pacific 2, George Fox 1
Snydar (Lynden, Wash.) posted a 2-3 outing at the plate with a run scored and a RBI in the opener, while Ashley Martin (Sutherlin, Ore.) struck out four in the complete game victory.

George Fox got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first, which Pacific responded to in the top of the third when Snydar led off the frame with a double to left center.

Becca Bernard (Roseville, Calif.) followed up Snydar's double with a single to left, which moved Snydar to third. With one out in the inning, Snydar scurried home on a ground out by Cindy Chan (Torrance, Calif.).

The eventual game winner for Pacific was scored in the top of the fourth when Morgan Bookout (Oregon City, Ore.) singled down the right field line with two outs. An Amanda Machado (Folsom, Calif.) single up the middle advanced Bookout to third, where she would score on Snydar's single to right field.

Six Boxers combined for seven hits, with Snydar's two hits leading the way. In Saturday's opener, Chan, Bookout, Machado, Bernard and Emily Peters (Forest Grove, Ore.) all notched a hit.

Martin finished with four strikeouts, while scattering three George Fox hits and surrendering no walks on 102 pitches.

GAME TWO: George Fox 4, Pacific 3
Macaitis-Smith (Salem, Ore.) drove in a pair of runs in game two as the Boxers fell to the Bruins.

Pacific posted a two-run first inning after Chan led off the game with a single up the middle, before advancing to second a sacrifice bunt. Macaitis-Smith singled up the middle to score Chan, advancing to second on the throw to the plate.

Macaitis-Smith stole third with two outs and scored when Machado singled to right center, which gave the Boxers a 2-0 lead entering the bottom half of the inning.

George Fox responded with a run in the bottom of the inning, before Peters walked to lead off the top of the second. Peters advanced to third on a double by Haley Kodama (Pearl City, Hawaii) and scored on a single to left by Macaitis-Smith.

After a scoreless third inning, George Fox plated three in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead, which held up in the end of a Bruins victory.

Macaitis-Smith was the lone Boxer with multiple hits in game two, finishing 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
