Nishimura rattles off four hit game as Boxers drop pair to Pios

FOREST GROVE — Taylor Nishimura finished game two of Sunday's doubleheader with four hits, including a double, as the Boxers dropped a pair of NWC games to Lewis & Clark at Sherman/Larkins Stadium on Sunday.

Sunday was Pacific's annual Senior Day and saw Allie Sims (Puyallup, Wash.) recognized between games for her contributions to the Pacific softball program.

Pacific fell in Sunday's opener 5-4, before dropping an 8-5 decision in 12 innings during game two.

The Boxers return to Sherman/Larkins Stadium on Tuesday to continue a previously suspended game against Puget Sound, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.

GAME ONE: Lewis & Clark 5, Pacific 4
Katelyn Macaitis-Smith (Salem, Ore.) led the Boxers with three hits as the Boxers fell in game one on Sunday morning.

Pacific got the scoring started in the bottom of the first when Macaitis-Smith doubled to center with two out, only to score on a single up the middle by Trisha Snydar (Lynden, Wash.). Snydar battled through an 11-pitch at-bat before ripping her single into center.

The Boxers continued scoring into the bottom of the second, where Morgan Bookout (Oregon City, Ore.) led off the frame with a double to left. A sacrifice bunt pushed Bookout to third, where she would score on a single to left by Kaitlynn Donaca (Oregon City, Ore.). Donaca took second on a wild pitch and headed to third on a bunt single by Becca Bernard (Roseville, Calif.).

After Bernard swiped second, Cindy Chan (Torrance, Calif.) delivered a hard-hit ball to short that allowed Donaca to score, before a throwing error put Bernard on third. Chan proceeded to steal second, which gave Bernard an opportunity to scamper home on the throw to give Pacific a 4-0 advantage heading to the third inning.

Lewis & Clark began its rally with one run in the third, and three in the fourth. The Pioneers finished the scoring in the sixth with a single run in the inning to help earn the 5-4 victory.

GAME TWO: Lewis & Clark 8, Pacific 5 (12 inn.)
Nishimura (Hilo, Hawaii) finished the second game of the day with four hits and two runs scored as the Boxers fell in 12 innings to the Pioneers.

After three quick innings of scoreless softball, Lewis & Clark broke the drought with one run in the top of the fourth only to score three in the top of the seventh.

Pacific did not back down from the four-run deficit as Nishimura doubled to center with one out, which was quickly followed by a double to left by Keri Togami (Mililani, Hawaii) that allowed Nishimura to score. A hit batter and walk loaded the bases with two outs for Haley Kodama (Pearl City, Hawaii). Kodama delivered with the bases loaded, driving a 1-2 pitch to right center for a three-run triple.

Kodama's triple allowed the Boxers to tie the game at 4-4, but a final out sent the game into extra innings.

The Pioneers scored in the top of the eighth, forcing Pacific to answer in the bottom half when Amanda Machado (Folsom, Calif.) drove Nishimura in to send the game into the ninth inning.

After three scoreless extra frames, the Pioneers plated three runs in the top of the 12th to secure a game two win.

Sims earned a no-decision in seven innings of work, finishing the day with one strikeout.
