Smith strike earns Boxers draw with Geoducks

OLYMPIA, Wash. — A 66th minute goal from junior Brooklynn Smith earned Pacific a hard fought 1-1 draw in its season opener at the Geoduck Pitch against Evergreen State.

Evergreen State (0-0-1) opened the scoring in the 39th when Delaney Rice went 1v1 with Pacific's freshman goalkeeper Saya Brown (Bothell, Wash.) and slotted her shot to the far post. Pacific answered in the 66th when Smith (Brea, Calif.) sent a curling ball in front of the goal mouth from 40 yards and saw it bounce over Evergreen State goalkeeper Rachel McClure and into the goal.

Smith's goal was the first of her collegiate career, after previously assisting on a goal during her freshman season.

NEXT UP... The Boxers open their home slate on Sunday with a 7 p.m. scheduled kickoff against the Corban Warriors on Ledbetter Field at Hanson Stadium.
