Thompson opens account in Boxers' loss to Warriors

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Junior Emily Thompson scored her first goal of 2017 in the seventh minute, but the Corban Warriors slotted in a pair of first half goals to leave Ledbetter Field at Hanson Stadium with a 2-1 win over the Boxers.

Corban (1-2-0) opened the scoring on a hot and hazy Sunday evening, with a header goal by Holly Martinez Moorman in the sixth minute.

Pacific (0-1-1) earned a free kick of its own in the seventh and after the ball pinged around in the six-yard box, Thompson (Orange County, Calif.) slotted in the rebound to the near post for her first goal of the season.

Corban took advantage of pace up front as Martinez Moorman delivered a pass to Annouscka Kordom, which Kordom sent to the far post for the would-be game winner.

Freshman goalkeeper Saya Brown (Bothell, Wash.) tallied four saves between the posts.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN... The Warriors iced the game in the final 10 minutes of play, earning back-to-back corners as they pushed to hold possession in the corner of the pitch.

STAT OF THE GAME... Thompson has now scored at-least once in each of her three seasons at Pacific.

NEXT UP... The Boxers continue a short home run with a 7 p.m. scheduled kickoff on Friday against the College of Idaho at Ledbetter Field at Hanson Stadium.

HAT TRICK, QUICK FACTS...
1... Thompson's goal was her first non-conference tally of her career.

2... Six Boxers made their home debut on Sunday evening.

3... With the temperature sitting at 92 degrees when the game kicked off, it marks the the hottest temperature for a home opener since Pacific hosted Hamline on August 31, 2013 on an 84-degree day.
