No. 23 Lutes top Boxers in Tacoma

TACOMA, Wash. — The first road test of the Northwest Conference season saw the No. 23 Pacific Lutheran Lutes topple the visiting Boxers 3-0 at East Field on Saturday.

Pacific (0-4-1, 0-2-0 NWC) held the Lutes (4-1-0, 1-0-0 NWC) scoreless over the opening 45 minutes, but a six-minute span in the second half saw Pacific Lutheran score three goals to run off with a 3-0 win.

Reigning NWC Offensive Player of the Year, Machaela Graddy recorded two assists and a goal for the Lutes.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN... Leah Magee scored off a Graddy corner in the 65th minute, which was followed by a Graddy goal in the 68th and an Ashley Mindnich tally in the 70th.

STAT OF THE GAME... Freshman defender Ammel Sawan played her, team-high, fourth consecutive 90-minute match.

NEXT UP... The Boxers return to Ledbetter Field at Hanson Stadium for a three-game home stand, starting with a September 23 match with the visiting Whitman Blues, scheduled for a noon kickoff.

HAT TRICK, QUICK FACTS...
1... Freshman goalkeeper Saya Brown (Bothell, Wash.) notched three saves in 70 minutes of play.

2... Junior Adina Goodwin (Tualatin, Ore.) joined Sawan as Pacific's lone players to go the full 90 on Saturday.

3... Kourtnie Jury-Hale (Waianae, Hawaii) made her first start of 2017 and second start of her career.
