The Pacific volleyball team ended its opening weekend with a 25-21, 25-21, 25-16 win over Olivet in the final match of the Oregon Trail Classic in Forest Grove on Saturday.
The Boxers (2-1) continued its hot-hitting attack with a .263 hitting percentage and sophomore
Karlee Duncan (Bend, Ore.) hit .472 en route to 19 kills to go along with 10 digs for her second double double of the young season.
The Comets (0-4) were held to a .157 hitting percentage. Brittney Pierce paced the attack with 10 kills in the defeat.
Duncan led Pacific in the opening set with eight kills that saw Pacific nearly lead from start to finish. The Boxers and the Comets were tied 10 times and the lead changed hands on four occasions. In the second set, Duncan added seven kills and six digs as the Boxers ended the set on a 10-4 run for to take a two-set to none lead. Pacific secured the win with a dominating third set, outhitting the Comets by a .235 to a .075 margin. Duncan and freshman
Jordan Zweifel (Tillamook, Ore.) each had four kills; plus, junior
Morgan Mendicino (San Diego, Calif.) added a pair of aces and block solos.
Next, Pacific takes its two-match winning streak on the road to the Lone Star State – for the Austin College Invitational – in Sherman, Texas. While in Texas, Pacific will face four schools from the American Southwest Conference including Sul Ross State and Louisiana College on Friday, Sept. 8 at noon (CST) and 6 p.m. (CST) as well as Concordia (Texas) and McMurry at 9 a.m. (CST) and 11 a.m. (CST), respectively.
