McMINNVILLE, Ore. — A goal in the 57th minute from senior
Weli Alamillo proved the winner on Sunday at Linfield Soccer Stadium as the Boxers topped the Wildcats 2-1.
Linfield (2-6-0, 0-4-0 NWC) took the early lead over Pacific (5-3-0, 2-2-0 NWC) when Ryan Kister scored off an assist from Chase Whittaker in the 12th minute.
The Boxers answered 11 minutes later, when junior
Jake Castanha (Santa Barbara, Calif.) saw his shot blocked and followed his own rebound to score the first goal of his career.
The deadlock was broken early in the second half when a strong tackle by senior
Ikaika Urasaki (Kaneohe, Hawaii) won the ball back for the Boxers. Urasaki fed Alamillo (Aiea, Hawaii) and allowed Alamillo to slot in his third goal of the season.
THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN... Alamillo slipped by two Linfield defenders and finished his chance to net his first game winner of the season.
STAT OF THE GAME... Senior goalkeeper
Leyton Thommasen (Des Moines, Wash.) recorded five saves in his return to the pitch after missing two-straight outtings.
