Boxers fall 1-0 to Pirates at Ledbetter Field

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — A second period goal by the visiting Whitworth Pirates proved all the scoring in Pacific's 1-0 home loss to Whitworth on Sunday at Ledbetter Field at Hanson Stadium.

The Boxers (0-6-2, 0-3-1 NWC) and Pirates (5-3-0, 4-0-0 NWC) held one another scoreless over the opening 45 minutes, with the two sides combining for just one shot on goal during the opening period.

The scoreless draw went by the wayside in the 52nd minute when Whitworth's Shirley Chandler sent a low cross toward the front of the goalmouth from the right wing, Leah Corra was the recipient of Chandler's cross and tapped in her third goal of the season.

Pacific's starting goalkeeper, freshman Kali Barber (Centennial, Colo.), recorded one save during the first half of the match. Freshman Saya Brown (Bothell, Wash.) relieved Barber in the second half and recorded two saves in the loss.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN... Chandler pushed down the right flank and cut inward to the 18-yard box before firing in a low and driven pass to Corra in-front of the goal, where she converted the game winner in the 52nd minute.
