With three players recording double-digit kills and five players tallying double-digit digs, it was a total team effort that led the Pacific University volleyball team to a 25-21, 25-19, 26-28, 25-15 win over Linfield for its 11
th-straight win on Wednesday night.
The Boxers (11-1, 5-0 NWC) managed to out hit Linfield, .261 to .096 and had a 30-dig advantage in the final statistics. Sophomore
Karlee Duncan (Bend, Ore.) and juniors
Morgan Mendicino (San Diego, Calif.) and
Ellie Parker (Beaverton, Ore.) each had a double double in the win. For Duncan, who had 15 kills and 13 digs, it was her third-straight double double and sixth double double of the season; meanwhile, Mendicino, who had 13 kills and 13 digs, it was her second double double of the season.
For Pacific, setting the attack was junior
Ellie Parker, who had 46 assists and 12 digs for her fifth double double. Junior
Anna VanderWeyst (Lacey, Wash.) and senior
Karissa Komo had 18 and 16 digs, respectively for the Boxers.
The Wildcats (8-4, 2-3 NWC) were paced by Eryka Keoho, who had a team-high 13 kills. Plus, Taylor Petersen and Mackenzie Courtney each added six in the loss. Kayla Magbaleta had a match-high 23 digs for Linfield.
In the first set, Pacific head coach
Kip Yoshimura called his second timeout with the Boxers trailing 17-13. The Boxers came back and closed the set with a 12-4 run for the first set victory. The run saw three-different Pacific players record multiple kills and the team came together for a pair of key blocks.
The Boxers carried the momentum in the second set, leading from start to finish. Duncan added five kills and six digs to go along with four kills by sophomore
Bailey Servoss (Mount Vernon, Wash.). Pacific out hit Linfield, .333 to .205 in the set.
The third set was one of the most tightly contested of the night, featuring six tie scores and six lead changes. The visitors from McMinnville erased a pair of match point opportunities to force a fourth set.
In the fourth set, after the two teams traded side outs, the Boxers went ahead for the remainder of the set. Pacific was led by freshman
Jordan Zweifel (Tillamook, Ore.), who had five of her eight kills in the set. Plus, Mendicino and Duncan each added three and Servoss added two more. The Boxer hitters were potent, hitting at a .400 clip in the win.
Next, Pacific will host Pacific Lutheran on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Stoller Center.
