A hot shooting second half led host Willamette to a 70-65 win over the Pacific University women's basketball team to snap a two-game winning streak for the Boxers.
The Boxers (3-11, 2-4 NWC) had two players in double figures including
Liana Tanaka and
Alexa Hinkley, who had 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Courtney Carolan added nine points and handed out five assists in the loss.
The Bearcats (9-6, 5-1 NWC), who extend their winning streak to five, shot 62.5% (15-for-24) from the field and 86.7% (13 of 15) of its free throws in the final 20 minutes. Kylie Towry scored a game-high 22 points en route to moving into second place all-time in career scoring at the Salem-based institution. Joining Towry in double figures was Brittany Kochenderfer, who had 12 – 10 of which in came in the second half.
At the start of the final quarter, Pacific clinged to a four-point lead, 48-44, until Willamette took a 51-50 lead for its first lead since the 5:09 mark of the opening quarter. The contest went back and forth, seeing the game tied on four occasions until a three-point play by Kochenderfer put the Bearcats ahead for the remainder of the contest. Willamette sealed the win, making four-straight free throws.
Next, Pacific will face George Fox on Friday, Jan. 19 in Forest Grove at 6 p.m.
