Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Pacific Comes Up Short in 66-62 Overtime Loss to PLU

The Pacific University women's basketball team rallied from a 13-point deficit to force its first overtime game of the season. However, host Pacific Lutheran scored seven of the final nine points en route to a 66-62 win over the Boxers on Saturday in Tacoma.

The Boxers (3-13, 2-6 NWC) were led by Charli Elliott, who had 10 points and 10 rebounds for her first double double in her first start of the season. She was joined in double figures by Jenee Brown and Kaela Collins, who had 17 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lutes (5-12, 1-7 NWC) landed four players in double figures in the win including Madison Salisbury, who had a game-high 18 points to lead Pacific Lutheran. She was joined in double figures by Kristin Sturdivan (12 pts.), Kylee Johnson (11 pts.) and Mackenzie Cooper (10 pts.).

Pacific started the third and fourth quarter with 8-0 and 7-0 runs, respectively. Each run by the Boxers was answered by the Lutes but there was plenty of fight in both teams. Twice in the fourth quarter, Pacific cut the deficit to one until a layup by Elliot with 12 seconds to go in regulation tied the game for the first time on the night. An attempt at a game-winning shot by Elliot came up to force the extra period.

To begin overtime, Brown made one of two free throws to put the Boxers ahead for the first and only time on the day. Four-straight points by the Lutes put Pacific Lutheran ahead for the remainder of the contest. The Boxers missed their last five shots from the field as the Lutes sealed win at the free-throw line when they made 3 of 4 free throws.

It will be a quick turnaround for Pacific, who will host Lewis & Clark on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at the Stoller Center.
