Visiting Lewis & Clark used a 23-point fourth quarter to rally to defeat the Pacific University women's basketball team, 61-56 on Tuesday in Forest Grove.
The Boxers, who had built a lead as large as 13 in the second half, fall to 3-14 on the season and 2-7 in the Northwest Conference. Pacific was led by senior
Kaela Collins (Snohomish, Wash.), who scored a team high 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting for her second-consecutive game in double figures. Joining Collins in double figures was junior
Megan Wesel (Winchester, Calif.) and junior
Jenee Brown (Kailua, Hawaii) who each tacked on 10 points.
The Pioneers earned their tenth win of the season and fifth conference victory with Tuesday night's win in Forest Grove. Janessa Willie led the way for Lewis & Clark with 13 points and seven rebounds, plus Sara Hogman added 12 points for the Pioneers in 16 minutes of action.
After a 22-point loss to the Pioneers in the first meeting back on Dec. 4, the Boxers found themselves leading the game for nearly 30 minutes. Pacific built a nine-point halftime lead - its second largest lead in the first 20 minutes on the season - shooting 53.8% at the intermission.
A late 28-7 second half run by the Pioneers saw the visitors take a nine point lead with :39 left. However, a resilient Boxers squad came back with six straight points to cut the Pioneer lead down to three, 59-56 with 18 seconds remaining. After a Boxer foul with six seconds remaining, Hogman iced the game with a pair of free throws to give Lewis & Clark a five point victory.
Next, Pacific will be looking to avenge a five point loss to the Wildcats back on Dec. 4 as they travel to McMinnville, Ore. to battle conference rival Linfield College on Friday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m.
