Boxers Win Double Overtime Thriller over Lewis & Clark

The Pacific University men's basketball team closed out a double overtime win against Lewis & Clark College 100-92, outscoring the Pioneers 16-8 in the final period. The Boxers improved to 11-7 on the season and 5-4 in conference after their third consecutive win.

The Boxers were led by senior Nate Olowo (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) who scored a game high 27 points while adding 14 rebounds for his 14th career double-double and seventh double-double of the season. Also eclipsing the 20 point mark for the third straight game was junior Brevin Brown (Everett, Wash.), who poured in 21 points, 17 coming in the second half and overtime.

Lewis & Clark (6-12, 2-7 NWC) had a balanced scoring attack with seven players in double figures including all five starters. Andrew Vickers paced the Pioneers with a team-high 18 points.

After a slow offensive start in the first half, freshmen Chris Kobayashi (Honolulu, Hawaii) provided a spark off the Boxer bench nailing three 3-pointers en-route to his career high nine points in 13 minutes. He entered the game, having just scored two points in his previous seven games.

As the lead changed hands nine times throughout the night, junior Chris Evans (Seaside, Calif.) was a consistent scorer for Pacific with 15 points on 7-for-9 from the field and added 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.

Trailing by two with less than five seconds remaining in regulation, the Boxers got the ball to Brown who scored a driving layup to tie the game up at 75 to send the game into overtime. In the first overtime period, Lewis & Clark held with a four-point advantage with :29 remaining. But after a layup by sophomore Davis Holly (Bend, Ore.) and a missed 1-and-1 opportunity by the Pioneers, the Boxers once again had an opportunity to send the game to another overtime, with a two point deficit with :17 left on the clock. Holly once again made his mark on the game as he found Olowo down in the paint, who scored two of his 27, to send the game to a second overtime. It was the first double overtime game for Pacific since January 29, 2016 against George Fox.

The second overtime was controlled by the host Boxers, who seized the momentum building a lead as large as 11 after a strong dunk by Olowo. Lewis & Clark rallied back with a 6-0 run before Holly, who knocked down a jumper to give himself 15 for the game and a pair of free throws by Brown sealed the game for the Boxers.

Pacific will travel to Linfield College Friday Jan. 26 at 8 p.m., to face off against the Wildcats for the second time this season. The Boxers earned an 88-73 win on Dec. 4 the last time the two teams met.
