Courtney Carolan scored 12 and 11 points in a 75-50 loss for the Pacific University women's basketball to No. 7 Whitman on Friday night in Walla Walla, Washington.
The Boxers (1-10, 0-3 NWC) found themselves playing catchup for the entire night, falling behind early 8-0. Despite the early deficit, Pacific continued to show the grit and determination as it has all season long. On three occasions, the Boxers cut the Blues lead to five on four occasions in the opening 20 minutes.
The Blues (11-1, 3-0 NWC) landed three players in double figures including Emily Rommel, who scored a game-high 21. Joining Rommel in double figures by Casey Poe and Mady Burdett, who added 16 and 12. That trio accounted for 49 of the 75 points and 19 of the 29 field goals for the victors.
An intense Pacific defense forced 21 Blues turnovers, who have won its 10 last games after a season-opening loss to Eastern Oregon, who is ranked No. 8 in the latest NAIA Division II rankings. Plus, the defense came away with 11 steals – just two shy of its season-high 13.
With Carolan in double figures, it the fourth time that the freshman has reached double figures for the Boxers and it is the third time that Wesel has scored double digits.
Next up for Pacific is a matchup against Whitworth on Saturday at 4 p.m. The Pirates will be hungry for a win after dropping a 74-71 decision to Lewis & Clark on Friday and having lost its three games.
