Boxers Lose to No. 8 Whitworth, 83-71

No. 8 Whitworth led from nearly start to finish in an 83-71 win over the Pacific University men's basketball team on Saturday in Spokane, Washington.

Kyle Roach had a game-high 25 points on the strength of four 3-pointers and a 7-for-10 effort from the free-throw line to lead the Pirates, who improve to 12-1 overall and 4-0 in the Northwest Conference. Jared Christy and Ben College scored 15 and 12 points, respectively. Plus, Whitworth knocked down nine 3-pointers in the win.

Brevin Brown scored a team-high 17, plus Nate Olowo and Davis Holly each added 12 and Jay Merriweather added 11 for Pacific, who falls to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the Northwest Conference. Olowo added eight rebounds and Chris Evans (pictured) had nine points and seven rebounds for Pacific, who drops its fifth-straight game. Brown handed out a game-high four assists in the loss.

Roach hit his first of four 3-pointers that put Whitworth ahead 6-3 and for the remainder of the contest. The Boxers would never be as close as three for the rest of the game. Pacific managed to cut the lead to eight on a pair of occasions in the second half.

Next, Pacific will host Puget Sound on Friday, Jan. 12 at 8 p.m. at the Stoller Center.
