The Pacific University volleyball team overcame a first-set loss to host George Fox to come back and win in four, 15-25, 25-9, 25-17, 29-27. In the final three sets, the Boxers hit at a .311 clip to defeat the Bruins.
The Boxers (12-6, 6-3 NWC) had two players –
Karlee Duncan (12 kills and 14 digs) and
Ellie Parker (34 assists and 14 digs) – record double double performances in the win. For Duncan, it is her ninth of the season and for Parker, it is her sixth.
Morgan Mendicino nearly became the third Boxes with a double double, recording a team-high 17 digs and nine kills in the win. Plus,
Genna Henderson came off the bench and had three crucial service aces on a team-best 20 service attempts that played a key role in the win.
The Bruins (7-10, 1-8 NWC) were led by a double double performance by Danyle Dupray, who had 19 digs and 13 kills in the loss for George Fox.
George Fox started the match, hitting at a .273 clip en route to a 25-15 win in the opening set. The Boxers got on track and the set, hitting at a .385 clip and forcing the Bruins attack to a -.136 hitting effort. After nearly trailing from start to finish, Pacific took a 5-1 spurt early to a 9-5 lead and force a timeout for the host Bruins. The Boxers stretched the lead to double digits on the eservice game of Parker and capitalized on five attack errors by the Bruins for a 16-6 lead.
Jordan Zweifel had three of her 11 kills and Duncan also added three to lead Pacific.
With the match tied at a set apiece, Pacific jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the third set. The Boxers would lead the set from start to finish, taking a lead as large as eight on three occasions. Midway through the set, during the service game of
Genna Henderson, the Boxers stretched a three-point lead, 13-10 to an eight-point lead.
The fourth set saw the Boxers behind an 8-2 margin to start the set. The Bruins held a 19-11 lead; however, there was plenty of fight on the Pacific side of the net and bench. Facing a 21-13 deficit, the Boxers called on Henderson, who delivered a pair of service aces and sparked the Boxers, who rallied to cut the deficit to 21-20. The two teams managed to trade side outs and momentum as on three occasions, George Fox withstood set and match points and the Boxers came back after facing set point. The set was decided after a kill by Mendicino and an attack error by the Bruins ended the match.
