Puget Sound would out-shoot the Boxers 25-5, but needed a late goal to carry them to a 2-1 victory.
Â
In the first half, the Boxers (1-9-3, 0-7-2 NWC) would be the ones applying pressure early as
Woodey Greer and
Robert Nurmi had shots blocked away by Puget Sound (5-5-3, 3-3-3 NWC) defenders in just the 4
th minute.
Â
It would be 30 minutes until the Boxers would have another shot at net, and Puget Sound would fire nine shots, their closest being a ricochet off the post. In this span Pacific keeper
Brock Jones would make one of his eight saves on the day.
Â
Jones would get challenged one more time in the half as he saved a break away shot by Puget Sound in the 38
th minute, effectively sending the two teams into half tied 0-0.
Â
Then, just two minutes into the second half,
James Curro would steal possession away near mid pitch and lay a through ball on the ground to Nurmi who would beat the keeper for his fifth goal of the season and give the Boxers a 1-0 lead.
Â
It would take 10 minutes for the score to even back up at one as the Boxers knocked in an own goal in the 57
th minute.
Â
After Jones had made seven straight saves on Puget Sound shot attempts, one would finally get by him in the 72
nd minute coming off of a corner. Jones attempted to punch the pass out of the box, but the ball was handled and deposited top shelf by a Logger.
Â
Pacific would have their tying opportunity miss by mere inches, as Alex Passman took a cross in from
Lucas Muller off the post in the 75
th minute.
Â
Boxers are back in action Saturday Oct 20 against Willamette in Salem, and back home Sunday Oct 21 against Linfield.
