The Boxers would need only one goal in the match to lock in a victory over Willamette Saturday afternoon. Their 1-0 victory ends a four game skid.
Pacific (2-9-3, 1-7-2 NWC) would be outshot by the Bearcats (11-2-2, 8-1-1 NWC) 24-9 and eight Bearcat shots on goal to three for the Boxers. Keeper
Brock Jones would come up big in many situations making seven saves, six in the second half.
In the first half, it would take 20 minutes until someone was able to get a shot attempt toward net as the Bearcats Max Berner-Hayes had his 24
th minute attempt cleared from the goal line by the Boxers'
Grant Rutledge.
The only other shot on goal would come from the Bearcats again in the 35
th minute where Jones would make his first save of the match.
Willamette would come out in the second half and force Jones to make three saves in the first ten minutes of the half. Then in the 55
th minute Pacific would get their first shot on goal as
James Curro had his shot saved.
Robert Nurmi would then put the Boxers in front in the 66
th minute, when
Shawn Opfer fed in a short cross that Nurmi would put home beating the keeper to the left side of the net.
Closing out the match would not come easy for the Boxers, as Willamette would get ten more shots off in the final 25 minutes, three requiring Jones to make a save, two being blocked by Boxer defenders.
Willamette's final chance to tie the game would come in the 88
th minute when Josh Schneider challenged Jones, Jones would save the ball and help the Boxers keep their 1-0 lead and give Willamette their first Northwest Conference loss of the season
