Boxers Fall to Puget Sound, 31-29, 25-19, 25-16

After a tightly contested opening set, host University of Puget Sound hit .215 in the next two sets to take a 31-29, 25-19, 25-16 win over Pacific University on Saturday in Tacoma.

The Boxers (11-6, 5-3) were led by junior Karlee Duncan, who had a team-high 14 kills, two service aces and two blocks in the loss.

The Loggers (10-6, 7-1) extend their winning streak to five with the win. Alli Reviglio paced a balanced attack with nine kills and five service aces to lead Puget Sound.

The first set saw the match tied on 16 occasions and seven lead changes between the two teams. Despite an early 9-3 deficit, the Boxers rallied with an 11-4 spurt to take a 14-13 lead on a Duncan kill. Neither team could sustain a lead as the remainder of the set went back and forth. The Loggers secured the first set win, capitalizing on an attack error by Pacific and a Maddie Lage kill.

The second set started in a similar fashion as the first set, both teams trading sideouts. Then, the host host Loggers took advantage of a four-point spurt put the host Loggers ahead 8-5 and in front for the remainder of the set. Duncan had seven of her 10 kills as Pacific hit .200 in the set. The Loggers were slightly better statistically than the Boxers, hitting at a .233 clip.

Puget Sound hit over .200 for the third-straight set and recorded five service aces to close out the match. The Boxers were held to a .081 effort as Milana Ivkovic had a team-high three kills for Paciifc.

It is just the second straight set loss for the Boxers, who will remain on the road for its next match as they travel to George Fox on Wednesday, October 10 at 7 p.m.
