A hot shooting effort and a fast start by Chapman led the Panthers past the Pacific University men's basketball team, 126-101 on Saturday in Santa Cruz, California.
Chapman (1-1) shot 63.6 from the field and made 33 of 43 free throws in the win. Four-different Panthers scored in double figures including Cam Haslam, who scored a game-high 30 in the win. Chandler White added a double double, scoring 27 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Reed Nakakihara (17 points), Jeff Kenney (12 points) and Daniel Foldes (10 points) each scored in double digits.
Pacific (1-2) eclipsed the 100-point mark for its third straight game and for the first time since the 1971-72 campaign. The Boxers were led by the 22-point effort from
Marcus Wallace. He was joined in double figures by
Brevin Brown and
Andy Isokpehi, who scored 17 and 10 points, respectively.
Chapman started the game on a 24-4 run in the opening 5:29 to put the Boxers behind for the remainder of the contest. Despite the early deficit, 16 points would be the closest the Boxers would be able to get as Wallace hit a 3-pointer with 6:11 left in the opening half.
Next, it will be a quick turnaround for the Boxers as they will face the host Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz on Sunday at 12:30 p.m.
