An early goal proved to be the difference as Linfield edged the Pacific women's soccer team by a 1-0 margin on Friday night in Forest Grove.
The Boxers (2-16-1, 2-12-1 NWC) had a chance in the opening minute of the game when a corner kick by Brooklyn Smith set up a header by
Adina Goodwin that was saved by the Wildcats' goalkeeper Madi Reimer along the post.
The Wildcats (10-4-5, 7-3-5 NWC) came back after the early attempt by Pacific and turned it into an opportunity for its offense. Michayla Soponsel stole the ball away near the middle of the pitch, beating the Boxer defense and its goalkeeper for an open net opportunity in the second minute for the goal.
The Pacific offense came up with a pair of opportunities by
Holly Bartholomew and
Emily Thompson in the opening half that went wide. Later in the game, in the second half, in the 75h minute an opportunity by
Brooke Nakamura sailed high and a shot by Brooklyn Smith in the 80
th minute was saved by Reimer, preserving the shutout. Reimer finished the contest with four saves for Linfield in the shutout and for the Boxers, Brown made five saves in the loss.
Next, Pacific will wrap up its season on Sunday with a noon contest for Senior Day against the Bearcats of Willamette. Prior to the game, Pacific will honor its Senior Class including
