After scoring 70 points in the first half, the Pacific men's basketball team came away with a 126-109 win over Cal Lutheran in a non-conference game on Wednesday night.
The Boxers (3-2) landed four in double figures, including a 35-point effort from junior
Marcus Wallace, who hit five 3-pointers in the win. Wallace and the Boxers hit 16 3-pointers for the first time since a Jan. 20, 2015 game against NWC rival George Fox. In this pre-Thanksgiving feast of 3-pointers, eight-different players for Pacific made a 3-pointer in the win.
Brevin Brown scored 17 points to mark his fifth-straight game in double figures.
The Boxers'
Davis Holly added 14 points and five rebounds; plus reserve
Joseph Ceballos-Espitia chipped in 10.
Zak Hankins had seven points and shared in team-high honors with seven rebounds.
The Kingsmen (2-3), who were playing their third game in four days against members of the Northwest Conference, were led by a 34 point, 13 rebound effort from Austin Cole. Michael Wadsworth came off the bench to add 23, plus Kyle Ferreira and Palmer Chaplin had 21 and 17 points, respectively.
A 3-point play by Wallace put Pacific ahead 39-37 with 8:42 left in the opening half as the Boxers led for the remainder of the contest. The Boxers scored the final four points of the first 20 minutes and the first five of the second half to take a 15-point lead, 75-60 with 19:19 left to play.
A resilient Cal Lutheran squad fought back and cut the deficit to five with a 12-2 run, 77-72 with 15:53 to play. Later in the half, the Kingsmen managed to make it a two-point contest on four occasions until Wallace sparked an 8-0 run. He punctuated the run with a 3-pointer and set up a 3-pointer for teammate
Ethan Moss. Later in the half, he made his second 3-pointer of the final 20 minutes that put the Boxers ahead by double digits for nearly the remainder of the contest.
In the win, the Boxers forced 26 CLU turnovers that they turned into 30 points and had a decisive 56-27 advantage in bench points.
Next, Pacific will begin Northwest Conference play with a matchup on Friday, Dec. Nov. 30 at Whitman, who is currently ranked No. 4 in the nation.
