Four Boxers scored in double figures in a 123-98 loss for the Pacific men's basketball to No. 14 Whitworth on Saturday in Spokane.
The Boxers (3-3, 0-2 NWC) were led by a 22-point effort from junior
Davis Holly (pictured), who made six 3-pointers in the loss. It was the second-straight game that the Bend native has been the top scorer for Pacific.
The Pirates (5-1, 2-0 NWC) had five in double figures, including four starters in the win. Ben College scored a game-high 24 points on six 3-pointers to lead Whitworth. Kyle Roach added 22, Jordan Lester and Ben Bishop added 18 and 17 points, respectively. Reserve Sam Lees added 14 and the fifth starter Jared Christy had a game-high 17 rebounds.
For Pacific, Holly was joined in double figures by
Marcus Wallace, who added 16 and reserves Gage Shelmedine and
Zak Hankins set new season-highs with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
The Pirates managed to shoot 68.5% (50-for-73) from the field, tying a school record with 123 points and overcame 24 turnovers. After the two teams traded 3-pointers to start the game, Whitworth went ahead on a free throw by Bishop and for the remainder of the contest.
A resilient Pacific squad managed to cut the deficit to 10, 70-60, when the Boxers'
Ethan Moss hit a 3-pointer with 16:19 to play. Whitworth answered the rally by the Boxers, managing to extend the lead to as much as 32 in the final minutes.
After finals, Pacific will travel to California for three games in four days. First, they will face Redlands on Monday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m., followed by Occidental on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. and Cal Lutheran on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.
