Courtney Carolan scored a season-high and game-high 21 points to snap a seven-game losing streak for the Pacific women's basketball team in a 79-74 over Puget Sound.
Pacific (4-14, 3-11 NWC) overcame an eight-point halftime deficit and outscored host Puget Sound by 13 in the second half en route to the win. The Boxers shot 47.5% (19-for-40) in the second 20 minutes as Carolan scored 16 of her 21 to lead Pacific. Off the bench,
Megan Wesel and
Carly Kakuda scored 12 and 11 points, respectively as the Boxers' reserves outscored Puget Sound by a 29-11 margin.
Also stuffing the stat sheet for Pacific,
Charli Elliott had six points, six rebounds, six steals and five assists; plus
Jenee Brown had seven points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Puget Sound (11-12, 6-8 NWC) had four in double figures, including Elizabeth Prewitt, who had a team-high 17 points. Jamie Lange (14 points and 10 rebounds) and Claire Fitzgerald (10 points and 10 rebounds) each had a double double and Cassidy Daugherty added 15 in the loss.
Trailing 38-30 at halftime, the Boxers scored the first eight points of the second 20 minutes to tie the game. Puget Sound quickly regained the lead on a 3-point play by RaeAllen and remained in front until a 10-0 run to end the quarter put the Boxers up 57-55 and for the first time since the 3:33 mark of the opening quarter.
Pacific remained in front for nearly the rest of the final quarter until six unanswered points by the Loggers tied the game at 70 with 1:53 to play. Again, the Boxers had an answer when
Alexa Hinkley hit a 3-pointer to put the Boxers ahead for the rest of the contest. The Boxers sealed the win, making four of its six free throws in the final 26 seconds.
