The Pacific University women's basketball team capped off their senior night with a 78-59 victory over Pacific Lutheran with five players in double figures on Friday night.
Â
This would conclude Pacific's victory over the Lutes to end the graduating seniors last home game as Boxers. Head coach
Larry Davis had nothing but love and respect for his graduating seniors, all of which he recruited years ago.
Â
"I am always proud of them and the effort they have always given, "Davis said. "Proud of the roles they accept on this team and what they provide for us is invaluable. I am definitely going to miss them."
Â
Junior
Megan Wesel (Winchester, Calif.) led the team with 14 points, 12 of those coming in the 3
rd and 4
th quarters. For her final home game as a Boxer, senior
Lauren Lykins (Hillsboro, Ore.) had 10 points, with six of them coming beyond the arc, and hitting all four of her free-throws. Senior
Carly Kakuda (Honolulu, Hawaii) had 10 points as well, along with her team leading four steals. Junior
Jenee Brown (Kailua, Hawaii) had 11 points along with sophomore
Charli Elliott (West Seattle, Wash.), who notched eight points and 11 rebounds in the all-around team win.
Â
The Lutes (5-19, 1-14 NWC) were led by freshmen Emma Janousek, who led the team with nine points and a team leading five assists.
Â
After a slow start in the first quarter for both teams, each shooting under 40% from the field, both teams were able to bounce back in the second quarter. The Boxers would shoot an impressive 67% from the field along with the Lutes shooting 55% respectively. A 6-0 run midway through the second quarter, would give a Boxers a 19-17 lead and would hold that lead, ending the half with a 33-28 lead.
Â
To start the 3
rd, both teams traded points back and forth, but midway through the quarter, the Boxers would cap a 10-0 run with four forced turnovers against the Lutes. The Boxers would hold a 47-40 lead.
Â
Midway through the 4

Moments later, Brown and Wesel would hit back-to-back three pointers to spark a decisive 15-2 run. In the final 10 minutes, Pacific would score a season-high 31 points in the quarter and shoot 69.2% (9-for-13) from the field.
