Four Boxers score as Griffins top Pacific on rainy Sunday

FOREST GROVE, Ore. — Four Boxers opened their 2018 scoring accounts on a rainy Sunday at Ledbetter Field at Hanson Stadium, but Westminster came out on top with a 17-4 victory over Pacific.

Westminster (1-1) opened the scoring with 26:43 left in the opening period when Katie Adams scored the first of her four goals, while roughly five minutes later it was Madison Ingman who scored the eventual game winner. Ingman finished the day with eight goals for the Griffins.

Pacific (0-1) struck for two goals in the opening half, before adding a couple more tallies in the second period.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN... After rattling off five-straight goals to open the afternoon, the Griffins went into halftime with a 12-2 lead after closing out the period with five unanswered goals before the halftime buzzer.

STAT OF THE GAME... Nine Boxers made their collegiate lacrosse debut, including the 2017 Northwest Conference Volleyball Libero of the Year in senior Anna VanderWeyst (Lacey, Wash.). VanderWeyst picked up two ground balls and caused two turnovers in her debut.

NEXT UP... Pacific opens Northwest Conference play on Saturday with noon first draw against the visiting Linfield Wildcats.

HAT TRICK, QUICK FACTS...
1...
Sophomore Roya Tahmassebi (Mountain View, Calif.) and senior Jordyn Godfrey (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) opened the 2018 season with an assist and goal each, while senior Felicia Doblado (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Jasmyne Adame-Contant (Martinez, Calif.) both notched a goal apiece.

2... Sophomore Ariel Watanabe (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded 13 saves in her first game in goal for Pacific, after serving as a defender last season.

3... Godfrey led the Boxers in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers on Sunday. Godfrey controlled eight draws, caused five turnovers and picked up five ground balls.
