Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Boxers Lose 76-52 to No. 5 Whitman

Freshmen Courtney Carolan (Spokane Valley, Wash.) and junior Charli Elliott (Seattle, Wash.) scored 12 and 11 points respectively, as the Pacific University women's basketball team dropped a 76-52 contest to visiting Whitman College.

Pacific (3-17, 2-10 NWC) battled the No. 5 ranked Blues early in the game and held multiple leads in the first quarter behind a pair of three-pointers by sophomore Alexa Hinkley (Portland, Ore.). The Boxers found themselves ahead late in the first quarter, but a 6-0 Whitman run to close the quarter gave the Blues a 19-17 lead.

Whitman (20-1, 12-0 NWC) shot an efficient 47 percent from the field in the game and held a strong rebounding advantage of 56-27. The Blues were led by Mady Burdett, who scored 16 points on 6-for-12 shooting. Joining Burdett in double figures was Casey Poe and Emily Rommel, who scored 13 and 12 points respectively.

The Boxers kept within striking distance for much of the first half but the Blues used a 12-1 second quarter run to gain an 11-point advantage. Despite shooting 45.5 percent from behind the three-point line, Pacific trailed Whitman by 10 at the half.

The Blues came out of halftime firing, shooting 52.9 percent in the third quarter, pouring in 23 points and stretching their lead to 20 in the quarter. While the Boxers were able to hold the Blues to only 13 points in the fourth, they were unable to get shots to fall and Whitman's lead grew as high as 29 in the quarter.

Pacific will continue their three game homestead next week against Willamette University, Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. in the Stoller Center.
