Roya Tahmassebi (Mountain View, Calif.) scored a career-high five goals in an 11-10 loss by the Pacific University lacrosse team to Puget Sound on Saturday night in Forest Grove.
The Boxers (0-5, 0-3 NWC) sophomore midfielder Tahmassebi gave fits to the Puget Sound defense throughout the contest. The last Boxer to score at least five goals in a game was
Paisley Hiefield, who scored six against Puget Sound on April 22, 2017.
Ariel Watanabe made 11 saves in the loss for Pacific.
The Loggers (1-2, 1-2 NWC) Ali Walker scored her second goal of the contest with 1:21 left to break a 10-10 tie. Ella Frazer and Izzy Amaya each scored three goals for Puget Sound in the win.
Pacific raced out to a 4-0 lead, including two goals by
Jasmyne Adame-Contant (Martinez, Calif.) before three unanswered goals by Puget Sound cut the deficit to one. The Boxers'
Felicia Doblado (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Tahmassebi scored two more goals in the opening half to put Pacific ahead 5-3 at the halftime break. It was the first time in 2018 that Pacific had led at the intermission.
A 6-1 run to start the second half by Puget Sound put the Loggers ahead 9-7. The lone goal in the run for the Boxers was the first career goal by
Rebecca Jimenez-Aleman (Newark, Calif.). Later in the half, a resilient Pacific squad managed to rally to tie the game at 10 with 3:12 to play. To spark the rally, the Boxers'
Anna VanderWeyst (Lacey, Wash.) scored her first career goal and back-to-back goals by Tahmassebi tied the game at 10 with 3:12 left to play.
After the Loggers' Hannah Nichols forced a Pacific turnover, she set up the game-winning goal by Walker.
Next, Pacific will host a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, Mar. 13 at 4 p.m. against St. Mary's (Indiana).
