The Pacific University baseball team dropped a twinbill to host Puget Sound, 9-0 and 5-0 on Saturday.
The Boxers fall to 8-14 overall and 4-10 in the Northwest Conference; whereas the Lutes improve to 11-8 overall and 5-4 in the Northwest Conference.
The Boxers were limited to three hits in the first game by Loggers starter Joe Brennan, who pitched seven innings en route to the win. The three hits came from senior
Joey Galeno (Auburn, Wash.), and juniors Derek Ridway (Elko, Nev.), and
Dustin Meyer (Silverton, Ore.).
Offensively, Puget Sound had 14 hits in the win including three from leadoff batter Jack Gries, who was one of two Loggers with multiple RBI and one of four with multiple hits.
In the nightcap, the top half of the Puget Sound order went 10-for-19 with four runs scored and four RBI in the win. Pacific freshman
Chase Anderson (Federal Way, Wash.) had two of the Boxers' five hits in the loss.
Pacific had a pair of base runners in the top of the first before the Loggers got on the board in its half of the first for an early 1-0 lead. Puget Sound added to its lead, scoring twice in both the fifth and eighth inning. Pacific stranded a pair of runners in the fourth and the bases loaded in the fifth in the loss.
The Boxers will wrap up the weekend series on Sunday in Tacoma with a single game at noon.
