Pacific University pitcher
Sam Lawrence [pictured] pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits and five-different Boxers had multiple hits in an 8-1 win over Lewis & Clark to complete a weekend sweep of the Pioneers on Sunday.
Lawrence went the distance, scattering four hits, allowing one run (earned) and striking out three as the Boxers improve to 11-15 overall and 7-11 in the NWC. Coincidentally, it is the first complete game by a Pacific pitcher since Boxer teammate
Paul Wolfram did so last year on March 25 against Lewis & Clark.
Â
Lewis & Clark (5-21, 3-11 NWC) got two of its four hits – including a solo home run - from Sean Shepard and utilized three pitchers in the loss.
The Boxers came back with two runs in its half of the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead. A RBI single by
Trevor Quinn and a RBI double by
Von Ferguson put Pacific ahead. A two-run seventh on three hits extended the Pacific lead to 4-1. The Pacific offense exploded for six of its 10 hits in the eighth inning, scoring four runs to seal the win. Three of the runs came in on RBI singles by
Dustin Meyer,
Derek Legeza and
Joey Galeno. For all three of them, it was their second hit of the day. Also with two hits on the day was
Max Nealon as well as Quinn, who had his first career multi-hit game.
Â
Next, Pacific will take to the road to face Willamette in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
