The Pacific University men's tennis team extended its winning streak to six with a 9-0 win over host Schreiner University on Wednesday in Kerrville, Texas.
The Boxers (8-2) have won six in a row for the first time since they rattled off nine-straight in 2016. It is the fourth 9-0 win on the season for Pacific.
With improved weather conditions in Kerrville, the Boxers started the day with a sweep of doubles for the fifth time on the season. Pacific began singles play with wins at No. 1 by
Oscar Wight, No. 3 by
Rayden Murata and No. 6 by
Griffin Fraser – all in straight sets. The win by Murata at No. 3 clinched the match.
The No. 2, 4 and 6 singles matches were decided in a third-set tie breaker. At No. 2 singles,
Jonathan Chung extended his winning streak to eight with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 win. At. No. 5 singles,
Garret Katayama also came back from a set down to win, 2-6, 7-5, 10-7. The final win came at No. 4 singles as
Ford Nakagawa outlasted his opponent, 6-2, 6-7, 12-10.
Next for the Boxers is a matchup against No. 15 Trinity on Thursday, Mar. 29 at 2 p.m. (PST) | 4 p.m. (CST).
