The Pacific men's tennis team ended its Spring Break trip to Texas with a 5-4 neutral site loss to Colby College on Friday in Austin.
The Boxers fall to 8-4 overall and the Mules improve to 6-1 with the win.
Pacific started the day with a win an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles –
Sage Katayama and
Jonathan Chung. For the duo, it is their seventh win in the last eight matches on the season.
As the match shifted to singles, Pacific got its first singles win on the day when
Sean Murphy was victorious at No. 5 by a 6-0, 6-2 margin. Murphy has won five of his last six matches. Wins at No. 2, 1 and 6 singles clinched the match for the Mules.
The Boxers won at No. 3 and No. 4 singles in a pair of three-set matches by
Jonathan Chung and
Rayden Murata, respectively. Both overcame a first set loss in the win. Chung was victorious by a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 margin at No. 3 and Murata won 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4. Chung has won nine of his last 10 matches at singles and Murata has won his four-straight singles matches.
Next, Pacific will host Willamette on Sunday, Apr. 8 at the Holce Tennis Courts in Forest Grove.
