Linfield built a 5-0 lead en route to a 10-2 win over the Pacific University baseball team in the series finale between the two teams on Saturday at Roy Helser Field in McMinnville.
The Boxers (13-17, 8-13 NWC) were seeking its second-straight series win in the contest. Pacific freshman
Aaron Alexander (pictured)Â had two of the five hits for Pacific for his first career multi-hit game.
Â
The Wildcats (16-14, 10-8 NWC) had 14 hits including four from Ryan Ross, who went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI in the win.
Ross put Linfield ahead with a two-run home run in the third inning as the host Wildcats took an early 3-0 lead. The Wildcats plated a run in the fifth and sixth to stretch the lead to 5-0 before Pacific got on the scoreboard.

The first three batters –
Derek Ridgway,
Trevor Quinn and
Chase Anderson – reached base to start the seventh. Anderson drove in Ridgway with a RBI single; then after a Wildcats' double play, Alexander singled up the middle to bring in Quinn.
Â
Linfield got one of the runs back in its half of the inning on back-to-back doubles for a 6-2 lead in favor of the home team. The Wildcats added to their lead, scoring four runs on four hits – three of which came around to score on bases loaded, bases clearing double by Fox.
Â
Wildcats' starter Carter Buuck pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and two runs (both earned) in the win to improve to 5-2. Pacific starter
Paul Wolfram went 2.1 innings, allowing one hit in the loss to fall to 1-4.
Â
Next, Pacific will travel on Tuesday to face Lewis & Clark in a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
