Pacific Loses to George Fox, 8-4

Despite a late rally by the Pacific University baseball team, the Boxers dropped an 8-4 decision to No. 24 George Fox on Sunday in the series finale.

The Boxers (8-9, 4-5 NWC) scored four times in the seventh to cut a George Fox lead to one, 5-4.

The Bruins (14-3, 8-1 NWC) built an early 5-0 lead and added three insurance runs in the eighth en route to the win.

Pacific junior Brandon Henderson (Pearl City, Hawaii) had two of the seven hits and shortstop Chase Anderson drew three walks in the loss. It was the second-straight multi-hit game for Henderson, who raised his batting average from .214 to .333 on the weekend.

George Fox was led by Sam Swenson and A.J. Valencia, who each had three hits to lead a 12-hit attack. Starting pitcher Alex Jondal overcame six walks to pitch six innings, scattering six hits and seven strikeouts to raise his record to 3-0.

The Boxers started the game, loading the bases before a ground out kept them off the scoreboard. A three-run second and a two-run third inning put the host Bruins ahead 5-0.

Pacific reloaded the bases to start the seventh inning without a hit. Then, the Boxers plated its first run of the day on a wild pitch. Sacrifice flies by Joey Galeno (Auburn, Wash.) and Derek Ridgway (Elko, Nev.) made the contest, 5-3 in favor of the Bruins. Next, with two out, Eli Wisdom (La Grande, Ore.) ripped a single down the left-field line to make it a one-run game.

Next, the Boxers will return home and Chuck Bafaro Stadium for a three-game series against Pacific Lutheran. Earlier this year, Pacific defeated the Lutes by a 10-7 margin on Feb. 9.
