The Pacific University softball team split a doubleheader with
Whitworth to wrap up the regular season on Saturday. The Pirates took game one by an 7-4 margin and the Boxers were victorious by a 10-6 advantage in the nightcap.
The doubleheader split puts Pacific at 21-15 overall and 15-13 in the Northwest Conference; whereas,
Whitworth is now 22-16 overall and 15-11 in the Northwest Conference.

Prior to the doubleheader, Pacific recognized its four seniors –
Alyssa Burns, Haley
Kodama, Erin
Shick and Tricia
Snydar.

Whitworth scored its seven runs on 10 hits en route to a game one win. Three-different Pirates including Michelle Silva, Sara Gayer and Allie Rude each had two hits in the win.

The Boxers had seven hits including a pair by
Nicole Martinez and
Hailey Miller, who each had a RBI in the loss.

Whitworth held a 3-0 lead until the fifth inning as the Boxers mounted a comeback on RBI singles by
Taylor Nishimura and
Nicole Martinez. The Pirates got back on the scoreboard in the sixth inning for a 4-2 advantage before Pacific came back with a run on a solo home run by
Hailey Miller made it a one-run game, 4-3. A three-run seventh inning gave the visitors some insurance runs. The Boxers got a run in its half of the seventh before stranding the bases loaded to end the game.

The second game saw the Boxers jump out to a 6-0 lead despite a 1 hour and two minute rain delay.
Montana Vaught and
Kaitlynn Donaca each had three hits to lead a Pacific offense, who had 14 hits in the night cap. Eight of the nine starters for Pacific had a hit in the win. Plus, freshman
Hailey Miller had her second home run of the doubleheader en route to four RBI to lead the Boxers.

The Pirates had 10 hits including four from Michelle Silva and two more from Chelsey Hayes and Kinsey McNaught in the loss.

Pacific plated three of its four runs in the first inning on a three-run home run by Miller; then one out later, Vaught hit a solo home run for the fourth run of the inning. A RBI sacrifice fly by Katelynn Macatis-Smith in the second inning, extended the lead to 5-0. The Boxers added to its lead in the third inning on the first career hit for
Allyson Smith, who singled in
Jill Uyeda to put Pacific ahead 6-0.

Whitworth got a run in the top half of the fourth to cut the Pacific advantage to 6-1. Then, Pacific came back with a run of its own in its half of the inning. Miller picked up her fourth RBI of the game when she tripled to the gap in right-center field to score Macatis-Smith, who had singled up the middle with two out. A three-run fifth inning by
Whitworth made it a 7-4 contest. Pacific also got on the scoreboard in the fifth when Haley
Kodama was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to put Pacific ahead 8-4.

A RBI ground out in the sixth for
Whitworth made it an 8-5 contest. Pacific added two insurance runs in the sixth on alert base running and a
Whitworth error to make it a 10-5 contest. The Pirates plated the final run in the top of the seventh for the final margin.

Four-different pitchers for Pacific saw action in the game including sophomore
Ashley Martin, who pitched 3.1 innings of relief, scattering four hits and allowing one run en route to the win.

The post-season fate for the two teams is still to be determined with action throughout the Northwest Conference still to be played.
