Boxers Lose to Linfield, 7-3; Defeat Puget Sound, 10-7

A season-high 16 hits led the Pacific baseball team to a 10-7 win over Puget Sound to wrap up a pair of neutral site non-conference games in Tacoma. Earlier in the day, the Boxers had dropped a 7-3 decision to Linfield.

Linfield broke up a 1-1 tie, scoring three runs on three hits in the fourth inning en route to the win. Two of the three runs came in on a single by Jake Dennis that put the Wildcats ahead for the remainder of the game. Then, Linfield added to its lead with two more runs on three hits in the sixth inning.

The Wildcats' Daniel Zavala had three of the 12 hits to lead Linfield, plus Dennis ended the day with three RBI in the win.

Boxers' Derek Ridgway (pictured) and Dustin Meyer each had two hits for the seven-hit attack for Pacific. One of the two hits for Ridgway was his first Pacific home run. The Boxers stranded 11 runners in the loss.

The second game of the day for Pacific saw the Boxers record 16 hits including three from Derek Legeza, Dylan Wright and Trevor Quinn; plus two from Chase Anderson, Joey Galeno and Ridgway. Galeno, Quinn and Luke Peevyhouse each had two RBI in the win.

A three-run bottom of the first put Pacific ahead 3-1 before Puget Sound scored twice in the second to tie the game at 3. The Loggers went ahead 5-3, scoring two more in the top of the third. This time, it was the Boxers who had the answer with a four-run inning to regain the lead for the remainder of the contest.

To take the lead in the bottom of the third, two runs came in on a two-RBI single by Peevyhouse and the Boxers also picked up a run each on RBI singles by Galeno and Quinn, respectively.

As the offense came alive, the Boxers' Casey Brown came out of the bullpen and held the Loggers off the scoreboard for three innings. Brown, in relief of starter Josiah Gilbert, earned the win, pitching the final 6.1 innings to raise his record to 3-4. He allowed six hits, two runs (both earned) and struck out two in the win.
