Boxers Drop 3-1 Decision to Hamline

Hamline University scored three times in the opening half en route to a 3-1 win over the Pacific University men's soccer team on Sunday in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

The Boxers (0-1-1) dashed the hopes of a shutout bid by the Pipers when sophomore Braden Kojima (Kamuela, Hawaii) converted a penalty kick in the 69th minute. It is the first collegiate goal for Kojima.

The Pipers (2-0-0) took the early lead when Stefan Kinsinger headed in a corner kick in the 7th minute. Later in the half, Adam King and Logan Weller found the back of the net in the 16th and 45th minute, respectively of the first half.

"For the second straight match, I was really proud of our team effort," said Pacific head coach Eric Mild. "We played 90 minutes of quality attacking soccer. We made three critical mistakes and were punished for all three."

Freshman Grant Rutledge (Brea, California) and Kojima were each responsible for two shots in the loss to lead Pacific. Both had shots that challenged the Hamline defense and a shot by Danny Fazio (Bellingham, Wash.) in the 78th minute was blocked by the Hamline goalkeeper Dean Isaacson, who made six saves.

The Boxers come back home for its next four matches, starting with two more non-conference tilts next weekend. "We are excited to perform in front of our home fans," said Mild. Pacific will host Wisconsin Lutheran on Friday at 7 p.m. and Warner Pacific on Sunday at 7 p.m.
