Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pacific Falls to Whitman, 4-1

Senior Emily Thompson scored her third goal of the season as the Pacific women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to host Whitman on Saturday in Walla Walla, Washington.

The Boxers (1-6, 1-2 NWC) surrendered two goals in each half in the loss, despite recording 13 shots - which tie a season-high. Plus, sophomore goalkeeper Kali Barber had 10 saves and Thompson recorded a match-high seven shots.

The Blues (1-6-1, 1-3 NWC) had four-different goal scorers in the win, who had 20 shots - 14 of which were on goal - to snap a five-match losing streak.

Whitman took an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute but a resilient Boxer squad came back as Thompson had a pair of chances at an equalizer in the 16th and 21st minute, respectively. Her attempt in the 16th minute was blocked and Blues' goalkeeper Elly Wolfe made a save in the 21st minute to preserve a 1-0 lead.

Later in the half, Whitman added to its lead in the 32nd minute as Emily Rigsby scored for a 2-0 lead in favor of the Blues. Again, Thompson and the Boxers organized its attack. Pacific capitalized when Thompson took a long cross from the center of the field in the 37th minute. The senior converted on the cross and a misplay by the Blues' goalkeeper. Both teams got a shot off to close out the opening 45 minutes.

Thompson and Kira Negrete had attempts at game-tying efforts to start the second half. The Blues countered with a pair of second half goals for the final margin. Whitman found the back of the next in the 65th and 83rd minute for the final margin.

Next, Pacific will face Whitworth on Sunday, Sept. 23 at noon before coming home to host Puget Sound (Sept. 28) and Pacific Lutheran (Sept. 30)
