The Pacific University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to host Whitworth University on Sunday afternoon.
The Boxers (1-7, 1-3 NWC)Â came out with a flurry of shots that were blocked by the Pirates defense and an
Emily Thompson attempt was saved.
The PIrates (5-1-2, 3-0-1 NWC) came back with six shots including a pair that were blocked by the Pacific defense, two more hit the crossbar and two more were saved by Pacific goalkeeper
Saya Brown to keep the game scoreless.
Later in the half, the two teams traded opportunities, including an opportunity by the Boxers'
Courtney Olsen that was saved by the Pirates' goalkeeper Molly Webster. Â
The Pirates ended the 0-0 contest with a shot by Rachel Wofford took a pass from Kelly Wucherer up the middle of the Boxer defense and past Brown for a goal in the 39th minute.Â
Pacific failed to concede, seeking an equalizer by
Adina Goodwin and
Gabby Glaser (pictured) in the 49th and 75th minute, respectively. The Boxers were unsuccessful on both attempts and the Pirates came away with the win.
Next, Pacific will host Puget Sound on Friday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. on Ledbetter Field at Hanson Stadium.Â
