Willamette scored three times in the second half en route to a 4-0 win over the host Pacific University men's soccer team on Sunday in Forest Grove.
The Boxers (1-5-2, 0-3-1 NWC) were held in check for most of the match in a contest that saw Pacific use 21 players in the defeat.
The Bearcats (7-1-1, 4-0 NWC) also went deep into its bench with 25 players getting into the match. Quinn Mello-Bastida and Nicholas Ballenger each had a goal and an assist to lead the visitors in the win.
Willamette scored in the second minute of the match, Hikaru Ichigi got in front of the Pacific defense from 20 yards out for the early goal. In the 17th minute, the Boxers'
Grant Rutledge nearly had an equalizer that was rejected by the Bearcats' defense.
Willamette added to its lead in the second half, scoring three goals in just over a 10-minute span. Facing a four-goal deficit, in the 70th minute, the Boxers'
Lucas Muller had a header attempt that was turned away by the Bearcats' defense.
Next, the Boxers will be on the road for a three-match road trip where they will face Puget Sound on Satuday, Sept. 29 at noon.
