Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Boxers Fall 108-77 to No. 3 Whitman

A quick seven-point spurt gave No. 3 Whitman just enough cushion to take its second and final lead en route to a 108-77 win over the Pacific University men's basketball team on Saturday night.

The Boxers (8-11, 2-8 NWC) went toe-to-toe with the nationally-ranked Blues for the first five minutes. The two teams were tied at eight after Marcus Wallace knocked down his first of five 3-pointers, tying the game with 14:47 left in the first 20 minutes.

The Blues (18-1, 10-0 NWC) came back with seven-straight points to take the lead for the remainder of the contest. Whitman managed to stretched the lead to as much as 16 en route to a 46-33 halftime lead. Whitman managed to land players in double figures on a balanced scoring effort across the board where 16-different players broke into the scoring ledger. Joey Hewitt paced Whitman with 15 points, joining him in double figures were Trevor Osborne (14 points), Jarokn Kirkley (14 points), Darne Duckett (12 points) and Austin Butler (10 points).

Wallace led the Boxers with a game-high 22 points for his 12th game of the season with at least 20 points. Plus for Wallace, it is the third time on the season that the junior guard has scored 20 points in three-straight games. He was joined in double figures by Gage Shelmedine (17 points), Chris Kobayashi (12 points) and Davis Holly (11 points) as nine-different Boxers scored in the loss.

After the seven-point spurt, Wallace got the Boxers within four, 15-11, as he hit another 3-pointer with 13:31 left to play. Again, the Blues had an answer with eight-straight to push the lead to double digits for nearly the remainder of the game. Pacific managed to cut the deficit to as little as seven in the first 20 minutes. Whitman scored the first 11 points of the second half en route to the victory.

The Boxers will look to snap its two-game losing skid with a contest against George Fox on Friday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. at the Stoller Center.
