Visiting Whitman outscored the Pacific University women's basketball team by 12 points in the third quarter, following a 30-30 halftime score en route to a 69-55 win on Saturday night at the Stoller Center.
After a tightly contested first 20 minutes, the Northwest Conference co-leader Whitman held the host Boxers to 26.7% (4-for-15) shooting in the third quarter and outscored the Boxers by a 22-10 margin over the next 10 minutes in the win.
Pacific (7-11, 1-9 NWC) was led a 14-point effort by
Courtney Carolan, who was joined in double figures by
Charli Elliott (13 points) and
Liana Tanaka (10 points). Plus, the Boxers got a spark off the bench from
Shelby Holman (pictured), who had five rebounds, two points and a steal in 14 minutes of action.
Whitman (15-4, 9-1 NWC) was led by Mady Burdett, who had a game-high 20 on the strength of six 3-pointers. Also in double figures were Maegen Martin and Makana Stone, who had 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The Boxers and Blues were tied on four occasions and featured seven lead changes in the first 20 minutes. The two teams traded baskets to begin the second 20 minutes but the Blues managed to score the next five points as they took the lead for the remainder of the contest. Whitman managed to extend the lead to as large as 21 in the fourth quarter.
Next on the schedule for the Pacific is a matchup against No. 13 George Fox on Friday at 6 p.m. at the Stoller Center. The Bruins edged the Boxers, 59-54 in an earlier meeting on January 5 in Newberg.
