A 9-0 run midway through the second half put visiting Puget Sound ahead for the remainder of the contest en route to a 101-93 win to spoil the home conference opener against the Pacific men's basketball team.
Pacific (6-6, 0-3 NWC) landed four players in double figures in the loss. Junior
Marcus Wallace led the Boxers with 22 points including four 3-pointers. He was joined by a pair of 16-point efforts by junior
Davis Holly and senior
Brevin Brown, plus
Jared Cattell added 12.
Puget Sound (5-7, 1-2 NWC) had five players in double figures including a double double effort by Cal Hansen, who had a game-high 26 points and 16 rebounds to lead the visitors. Also in double figures were four starters including Jimmy Wohrer (16 points), Stellan Roberts (12 points), Max Basile (11 points) and reserve Jewell Day (13 points).
After the decisive run by the Loggers, Pacific managed to cut the lead to one on a pair of instances. On both occasions, the Loggers' Jewell Day had an answer to the Boxer spurt. Puget Sound ended the comeback hopes, making seven of its eight final free throws.
Next, Pacific will travel over to Newberg on Saturday to face a George Fox squad, who will enter on a three-game winning streak at 6 p.m.
