12 lead changes including a decisive one with 1:01 left proved to be the difference as visiting Puget Sound scored the final three points en route to a 63-61 win over Pacific University women's basketball on Friday night.
The Boxers (6-6, 0-3 NWC) went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the Northwest Conference throughout the contest. Pacific knocked down nine 3-pointers including four from senior
Liana Tanaka, who shared in game-high honors with 21 points. She was joined in double figures by a pair of 11-point efforts by
Ashley Jones and
Courtney Carolan.
The Loggers (9-2, 2-1 NWC) also had three players in double figures including a 21-point effort from Elizabeth Prewitt, who went 10-for-17 from the field to lead Puget Sound. She was joined in double figures by Jamie Lange, who added 15 and a double double from Giavanna Sorn, who had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Facing an eight-point deficit, 43-35 midway through the third quarter, the Boxers closed out the quarter on a 10-3 spurt to make it a two-point contest when action entered the fourth quarter.​ Jones made one of her three 3-pointers for the Boxers to put Pacific ahead 48-46 and for the first time since the 1:06 mark of the second quarter. The game went back and forth for the remainder of the quarter that saw three lead changes.Â

Back to back 3-pointers by Tanaka put Pacific ahead 59-57 with 2:11 left in the game. Then, the Loggers' Cassidy Daugherty put the visitors back in front with her own 3-pointer on their next possession. Again, Pacific answered and called on junior
Ashley Jones, who banked in a jumper with the shot clock about to expire that put the Boxers ahead 61-60 with 1:18 to go.

The Loggers' Jamie Lange put Puget Sound back in front with a lay-up with 1:03 to play. The visitors from Tacoma managed to keep the Boxers off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest and Daugherty made one of two free throws with :08 left. The visitors held Pacific without a shot in the final seconds to come away with the two-point victory.
